About Driving
Acorn offers lessons and bookings that are tailored to your needs. We understand the uniqueness of each person that gets into our vehicle and adjust our teaching practice to match your abilities and temperament; be it confident or nervous, first timer or experienced driver looking to move up to advanced skills.
You can book a single lesson or take advantage of the discounts offered on a block booking, we will do a full hour or multiples thereof, depending on your timetable. Our 1 to 1 tuition is professional, relaxed and fun. You will relish the driving experience in our Peugeot 307 that is a smooth, enjoyable drive, comfortable and fully air conditioned. We will pick you up from wherever is most convenient, home, work, college etc. and drop you off where you want to end up.
The more relaxed you are, the better you will absorb the lessons and the sooner you will feel you have become the driver you want to be. Nervous pupils are very welcome at Acorn, we understand the worries and will work with you to eliminate your fears. We will always go at a pace that suits you.
Helpful Notes For Learners
From the age of 17 years old, you can legally drive a car on the public roads; all you require is a provisional license and either a qualified driving instructor or an accompanying driver over the age of 21 in the vehicle with you. The only exception to the age law is; if you are disabled and in receipt of mobility allowance, then the minimum age is just 16. You may not drive alone until you pass your Driving Test.
So the first thing you need to do before embarking on your lessons, is to apply for a provisional driving licence through the DVLA. You can do this online or via the post office. A first provisional licence costs £38.00.
Once you have your Provisional License and have taken enough lessons to feel competent, you will be ready to take your Driving Test. The test is actually split into two parts and you must pass both these parts before you can apply for a full driving licence.
One part is a computerised Theory Test of mainly multiple choice questions together with a video-based Hazard Perception Test. The second part is the Practical Test of your driving skills and abilities. You must pass your Theory Test before you are allowed to apply for and take your Practical Test.
With Acorn, we will take you through all the steps needed and will do our very best to ensure everything you need is in place and that you only take the test when you are confident and able. We want you to pass first time and we want you to be a safe and happy driver. Trust us with your lessons and we won't let you down.
